If you've read any of my previous posts, you will quickly come to know that I am a big breakfast lover. The challenge is, however, to eat a great breakfast and do so in a heart-responsible manner. So, if there are ways to cut out the bad fat and keep the traditional taste, let's do it.
A product that I have found to help in this fat-cutting process is the Bacon Wave microwave cooking rack. Sure, you can use it to cook regular bacon and it will reduce the fat by keeping the meat secured to the rack out of the bacon grease drippings. That's a step better than cooking the bacon submerged in it's own fat, but there's a further step to help in the over-all objective of reducing fat content.
Time to call in our old friend Tom Turkey. Why not go to your friendly grocer and pick up a package of turkey bacon. It's got great flavor with less saturated fat than regular bacon. A recent comparison of turkey bacon products to regular bacon, showed that two types of turkey bacon (Jennie-O Extra Lean and Applegate Farms) had 0 grams of saturated fat, while three brands (Oscar Meyer, Applegate Farms, and Hormel) of regular bacon had between 2 and 3 grams of saturated fat.
In addition to the reduction in saturated fat, you will have additional fat reduction by using your rack to keep the turkey bacon out of its own drippings. Who thought a turkey could be such a friend to helping us achieve healthy eating!
